Based on the grounds of an existing fire station, a need for a storage facility and workshop was identified for Tshwane’s emergency centre vehicles, including ambulances, fire trucks, cars, motorbikes and specialised emergency vehicles.
1000m2 of space was proposed, with a small office and mezzanine level, which also doubles as an indoor training area. The large sliding ‘hangar’ doors accommodate a variety of sized vehicles to move in and out effectively, and the long-spanning portal frame structure also allowed for multifunctional use of the storage facility, allowing full movement of vehicles, staff and storage equipment.
The central location of the facility, as well as the proximity to the functioning fire station, vehicles can efficiently be stored, washed, categorised, fixed and dispatched to all the fire stations in the surrounding areas.
